The Aus-Lanka Business Council INC. was formed in 2002 in Victoria for the purpose of promoting trade between the Australia and Sri Lanka by providing representation and assistance for businesses in both countries in dealing with each other and in setting up and operating business in either country.

The Aus Lanka Business Council is the only organistion in Victoria that is bringing the vibrant expatriate Sri Lankan business community together. The Council aims to achieve this objective through expansion of its membership and existing business to business links, providing useful information for development of trade and professional services, establishing close links with the different chambers of commerce and trade promotion organisation in Sri Lanka and in Victoria. The council also aims to act as the first point of contact for businesses in Victoria.

The Aus-Lanka Business Council has, organized many successful high profile events in the past, such as hosting of a seminar in Melbourne for the Board of Investments, Sri Lanka, launching of Sri Lankan Government Security Bonds and other financial instruments and NRFC accounts for Bank of Ceylon and Peoples Bank, facilitating of trade delegations to and from Sri Lanka and in May 2010, launching of a trading desk for the Colombo Stock Exchange, organising information events for the Sri Lanka Tea Board and Information and Technology Agency (ITCA) of Sri Lanka. The Council works closely with Sri Lankan Consulate office in Victoria on Trade matters and Australian agencies such as Aus Trade and Monash University. Currently, the Council is working closely with representatives of the Commonwealth Business Council to participate in the Commonwealth Business Forum in November 2013 in Sri Lanka.

The Council also, hosted the first ever, six a side Mercantile Cricket Tournament and a Business Quiz Competition in 2013, which will be an annual event.

In 2012, the Council signed a MOU with the Indian Executive to provide further opportunities for both Councils.

The Council invites the expatriate Sri Lankan business community in Victoria and any leading Victorian businessmen and women interested in building trading relationships between the two countries to become a member of the council. Many membership benefit plans have been introduced to assist members in promotion of their business. Free listing on the Council’s on line Business Directory, free advertising at the venue for all the members at every function that will be held by the Council, product launching facilities, opportunity to participate in business promotion meetings, access to discounted professional services, free publications are some member benefits that are available. The Council will soon launch their “Young Professionals Group” and “Women in Business Group”.
